Royal Wedding has more YouTube views than Britain has people

YouTube’s livestream of the Royal Wedding was viewed more than 72 million times last Friday, the company has revealed.

That’s a higher number than the number of people living in the UK. In fact, if royal wedding web viewers were to form a nation (perhaps one in which everyone wears fancy hats), it would be the 19th largest country in the world.

And those 72 million views only represent YouTube’s official Royal Channel. Several other platforms also posted live video of the royal wedding. For instance, Livestream reported that the event set a new record on its site with 300,000 concurrent visitors.

Wedding viewers were mostly from the United Kingdom and United States, according to the YouTube blog. Italy, Germany and France had the next-highest number of viewers on the platform.

Royal wedding guests given ‘etiquette guide’

Royal Wedding guests have been sent a 22-page list of do's and don'ts – including how to hold their teacups.

The etiquette guide has commonsense tips such as not clashing with bride Kate Middleton’s outfit by wearing white or cream and keeping phones silent.

But there is also advice for the 1,900 guests on how to greet the Queen.

Etiquette is very important but for some it will be a minefield. That's why this guide will help.

  • Guests are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes before the ceremony begins.
  • As the Queen enters Westminster Abbey, everybody has to acknowledge her arrival with a curtsey or bow as she walks through. The same must happen as she leaves.
  • Wearing the right hat and not overdoing it is important. Wearing cream or white is not appropriate. That must be left to the bride.
  • Men in the Armed Forces should wear uniform and male civilians a lounge or morning suit. A top hat should be carried, not worn, inside the church.
  • There will be champagne flowing and you've got to hold the glass properly, by the stem.
  • During the formal dinner a lot of people won't know how to use a knife and fork properly, let alone which cutlery to choose from.
  • You must eat from the outside in and if you have a mass of glasses in front of you, it helps to know which to use.
  • With tea cups, lift the cup not the saucer and hold it very gently with your index finger and thumb, returning the cup to the saucer after every sip.
  • They have been told not to look at Kate, the Queen or any of the royals while serving. They must keep their heads down and be as discreet as possible.

Royal Wedding in Westminster Abbey

As I'm sure the world is painfully aware there is a Royal Wedding happening in London on Friday 29 of April.

Prince William follows in the footsteps of his grandparents by getting married to Catherine at Westminster Abbey located near the House of Parliament.

Kate and William will marry at London's Westminster Abbey in front of 1,200 guests (including me but I will not be there because I am working that day and I was not invited too hahaha).

Finally got out to see Westminster Abbey in London... well at least the touristy bits... yesterday! The venue was quite spectacular and quite a popular destination for sightseers with the Royal Wedding coming up. It was quite difficult to get a shot without tons of ghostly people trails, but I managed to out wait most people to grab some shots.

I wanted to see what's inside the church but I have to pay an entrance fee worth 16 pounds just to go inside. I've never known this you have to pay before you can go to church. So I decided to turn around the corner and watch people walking and having photos of their own and till I reach The House of Parliament, The Big Ben and London Eye as I accross the Westminter Bridge which i will feature in my next post later.

Things Kate can't do once she marries Wills

Kate will feel the changes to her life on a higher level than many past princesses.

Here are ten things the bride-to-be will no longer be allowed to do once she walks down the Green Mile – ahem, aisle – in Westminster:

1. Be referred to as 'Kate'

When Kate Middleton joins the House of Windsor this year, her official title will become ‘Her Royal Highness the Princess William of Wales’.

2. Vote

This is in keeping with the Royal Family's public role, which is based on identifying with every section of society, including minorities and special interest groups.

3. Run for political office

For the reasons stated above, this is also a no no.

4. Escape the scrutiny

As arguably Britain's most dysfunctional family, the Monarchy provides the British public with a generous source of voyeuristic entertainment, and an opportunity for heartless slander.

5. Play Monopoly

In 2008, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, said that the Royal Family was not allowed to play Monopoly at home "because it gets too vicious". No member of the family has yet revealed what they play in its place during the Christmas holidays.

6. Say or do anything controversial

This includes accepting large amounts of money from 'businessmen' for access to your husband and getting your toes sucked in public by your financial adviser.

But it also encompasses Kate's expression of her preferred political position, social position, sexual position – basically anything within the realms of personality.

7. Eat shellfish

British Royals are apparently never served shellfish, because of a fear of food poisoning. So if Kate can't live without crustaceans, she will have to seek them out in her own time.

8. Work

It is well known that Royals and careers don't mix well.

9. Sign anything unofficial

People in this position are strictly not supposed to sign anything that could lead to their signature being copied and forged.

10 Finish her dinner

If she is a slower eater than her grandmother-in-law, Kate could go hungry. In Britain, when the Queen stops eating, you stop as well, fork in hand.
